"Do you see anything suspicious Mabel?" Samuel asked.
"Nothing since five seconds ago, stop asking you coward." Mabel said.
Mabel, an elite Witch Hunter, took her colleague Samuel with her on a patrol.
Mabel, a woman with a strong believe for justice and striving for her honour and pride.
Her long blonde hair , green eyes and cute face didn't show anything of her true image.
A dangerous enemy, but powerful ally.
On the other hand, her colleague that went with the name of Samuel, was cut out of different wood.
He was more a shady background person.
He didn't like to be in the center of attention, neither did he care about honour or pride. Although he did care about the Witch Hunter's pride.
Normally Samuel would be focussing on paperwork, but because of the short amount of people around the Arishalore Witch Hunter headquarters, Samuel had to help Mabel on her daily routine.
Samuel had an average body.
Not too muscular or too fat. Just so - so.
He wasn't used to fighting, and you most definitly could see that because of his arms.
His long dark red hair covered his upperface and his lowerface was covered by his shirt, that whirled up as somekind of wrap.
He held his flintlock tightly in his hands, as if any moment a monster could jump out of the bushes, not that that would happen though. "You're such a wuss Samuel." Mabel snickered.
Samuel shrugged. " Atleast I'm not as careless as you are ! Remember when that Ayakashi sneaked up on you because you weren't paying attention !?" Samuel said.
"You know that wasn't an Ayakashi, but a fox, and I can hardly forget it since it happened some minutes ago." Mabel said, frowning one of her eyebrows.
"I know ! But what IF it was an Ayakashi? You would've been taken by surprise , and you wouldn't be here anymore !" Samuel shouted.
"You're overexaggerating, calm your panties and just move on. I like to have this done before midnight if you please. Wuss." Mabel snickered and turned her head towards Samuel to show him one of her rare smiles.
Samuel whistled quickly, on a high pitch . It meant he had found something.
Mabel frowned her eyebrow and quickly ran towards Samuel.
"Look at these markings, I've never seen them before." Samuel said, pointing at several trees near each other.
The markings looked like somekind of clock perhaps? No, a circle with two stripes? Unsure what it meant.
Mabel walked closer to it , grabbed her flintlock from her belt and held it close to her.
"Whatever it is or was, it left it's track on the ground. Footprints I presume, they're not human, but at the same time I can't think of an animal or creature that has these kind of footprints." Samuel said, crouched on the ground inspecting the prints.
"Strange, I've been walking this daily routine for a very long time now and even I have never seen this. How long ago do you think "it" has walked past here?" Mabel asked.
"Hum, very frequently I recon. The prints are still fresh. "It" is probably more then ten minutes ahead of us?" Samuel said.
"Let's make haste then and find out if this thing a friend or an enemy is." Mabel said.
They both ran as fast as they could, and at the same time as silently as they could, following the tracks of the creature that had been snooping around here.
Left, right , left and left again.
The creature was obviously making a run for it, it was zigzagging through the whole wood.
Samuel and Mabel ended up in an open space, where no trees were standing.
The bright light from the sun was shining on Mabel's face. Probably one o' clock now.
"Mabel, it is a dead end. The track seems to stop here."
"Darn it, just as I thought --" Mabel stopped talking in the middle of her sentence.
Samuel was positioning himself to say something but Mabel held her hand up. She slowly walked to a near bush, slowly and carefully .
She aimed with her flintlock and shot off three bullets, one after another. Her reloading abilities were amazing, but what else would you expect from an elite Witch Hunter?
She sighed, obviously relieved nothing was in there.
"Did you find anything?" Someone asked.
"Not really Samuel, what about --" That wasn't Samuel's voice , Mabel just noticed. In just a matter of seconds she quickly turned around aiming directly in front of her.
When she turned around, she was looking towards a face. A human, no , not a human face.
She couldn't comprehend what kind of race or species it was.
Mabel blinked and directly started shooting in front of her. The creature was gone, did she hallucinate it? Probably a lack of sleep, she thought.
"Samuel , where are y--" Samuel was lying on the ground.
Mabel's heart suddenly started to pound very quickly, and fear became master of her mind. She quickly ran over to Samuel and held her ear on his heart. Still beating, she let out a sigh of relieve.
So she isn't alone here, her sixth sense took over and she focused on her surroundings.
"Who or whatever you are, come out now and surrender ! " She yelled with confidence.
She ran to where she first encountered the creature.
"Turn around, no sudden moves and drop your device." A voice said.
Mabel slowly turned around and saw the creature was holding Samuel, and she directly dropped her flintlock. She held her hands up in the air and asked "Now tell me who and what you are." The body from the creature was covered by Samuel, as the creature held him as a human shield. She noticed the creature was holding a small knife against Samuel's neck. "My name is Logibein, I'm Mirgun." Mirgun, where did she hear that before? She remembered.
The Mirgun were a proud race, once walking the land of Arishalore. However, they were banished in the second great war to the underground. Mirgun were like humans, but a little bit shorter, faster and stronger. They had pointy ears and they could travel in time. Just for a second though, but it was just enough for them to warp from one place to another, that's why they were often mistaken for travelers. "Easy there, drop the knife, we mean you no harm ! " Mabel said.
"No harm you say, your badge says otherwise. You filthy Witch Hunters are hunting on us, killing our people. I'd wonder what you would do if I did the same to one of your people." Logibein said. "No ! Don't, please ! We're not the badguys! " Mabel screamed. "That's what they all say, leave now and don't come back. You'll regret it, take this human with you, have a nice day." And he vanished, and then she could hear him walking in the very far distance. Samuel fell with noise on the ground. She quickly ran towards Samuel, which was still unconcious. She would set up camp here, she couldn't let him alone here and she wasn't strong enough to either carry him.
Logibein huh? I'm going to remember that Mirgun, she thought.
